Arruda Photography provides portrait photography throughout the greater Rockland area, Rockport and Camden in Midcoast Maine. I specialize in a low key approach to capturing portraits to last a lifetime. While I will give direction, depending on the subject I am photographing I tend much more toward the photo journalist type of approach in capturing my subjects. I find this approach works particularly well for families with young children where my goal is to capture the natural interaction between siblings and parents and/or grandparents. Smiling on cue is not something you will find me asking, as forced expressions easily ruin what would otherwise be a memorable moment. Additionally, some of the best images I have captured don't involve smiles at all.

Technical considerations aside, the relationship between the photographer and subject is the most important component in creating memorable images. With that in mind, an average session lasts between an hour and two hours, but I'll spend as much time as is necessary to allow for everyone to relax and an atmosphere conducive to great photos to develop. I prefer to work in natural light with the rich backdrops that outdoor photography in Maine presents. Considering that the weather does not always cooperate, I also travel with a portable lighting setup allowing me the flexibility to move indoors and shoot regardless of the weather.
